ORIGINAL REVIEW: 4 December 2004 |
Apart from the framed Chelsea shirt on the wall everything else to report is positive. Starting with the good beer and moving on to the great atmosphere generated by a good set of people in this busy and bustling pub. The main photo of the review is the landlord and landlady who have been running this place for a large number of years. They are clearly doing a very good job of it and are rightly proud of their pub, which was clean and well looked after. They took the time to run down the history of the pub, point out the design of the bar reflects the two Caversham bridges, and draw attention to their new food hygiene award. Diane also offered protection for our trip to the Moderation, which was generous... The place has a very Italian feel with the decor and warm colours. Wasn't too sure about the things on top of the windows though. Despite having plenty of tables they manage to pack in a pool table round the back too, which makes this feel like a very complete pub. G.
Not what I was expecting at all. As we walked in it felt modern, lively and little bit of a cross between a bar and a pub and not a trad pub at all. As G said, there was a Mediterranean feel with the terracotta walls and kind of relaxed Italian vide going on with the eating area we were sat in with Roman blinds on the windows if I remember rightly. It was bustling with folk at the bar and the music was playing and everyone was happy.
Again, as G said it was very clean and well presented and again the bar area had more of a bar feel (if you know what I mean) rather than a pub feel that it.
I would like to come back on less of a popular time to see what the place is like then but all things considered, I would just like to come back actually. Anytime. S.

BEER EXPERIENCE |
Two proper beers available - Fullers London Pride and Youngs Bitter. The London Pride certainly hit the spot and was a tasty, well served pint. G.
Not bad though not spectacular but I have to agree that the London Pride is always most welcome. S.

"This place has been under new management for a couple of years now, one of the first things they did was get rid of that filthy blue tea towel, otherwise known as a "Chelsea" shirt. Atmosphere is really nice these days, always friendly, and the beer's always well kept. What more could you ask for."
