We went along thinking it was the Four Horseshoes - but were a bit behind the times as it turned out... The place has turned into a Chinese restaurant in recent years, but we weren't along for the £10.90 eat as much as you like buffet! Most of the place is now for food only - but they've retained a small pub area which makes it qualify for the mission. The locals still turn up here in defiance and the place caters for them with a small pub area where most people were sat at the bar. They've actually made an effort to retain a bit of a pub feel with a proper bar, some fantastically comfy sofas and a TV where they actually let you loose on the remote control. The thing is that it still felt just like a waiting area for the restaurant. G.|
A Clingfilmed remote control no less. Bit worrying as to why they had to put clingfilm on it and I don't want to know what they had to wipe off previously! Beer I guess! We had a bit of Eastee's on but it didn't seem popular so we went back to the travel docu on BBC2 which was very popular with one of the owners who came and sat next to us to watch it.
Anyway, what do you mean small pub area? Explain yourself boy. If you opened your eye's you would have noticed it was quite a large area, nearly half the place I reckon. Nice sofa's though. I did manage a good slouch whilst we supped our pint which was very pleasant. Not a real pub though and it was a bit sparsely populated with punters and as guest missionee John mentioned, it felt like the waiting room for the restaurant rather than a pub. Most of the tables had the restaurant table cloths on so I guess they get used when it's busy so the pub bit was really only the sofa's and the bar itself. Bloody hell, G was right after all, it is a small pub area! S.
A few draughts beers - John Smiths and Courage - plus draught lager and cider. There was also a good selection of bottles on the go - and big posters promoting the Tiger beer. G.|
"Been to the eastern pearl a few times while passing and i find the beer is good but very expensive. Music variety is good but im sure its loud one end of the pub than the other.
Many better places in reading to drink cheaper"|

"I have to admit, we only drink here when we are waiting for a takeaway, now that the EP have stopped doing deliveries. Probably too many carjackings in Whitley.
This is not a nice place to drink; it is full of locals who must be deaf, as the music is soo loud. I really feel for the staff here. The restaraunt really isn't that bad, the food is good and they are always helpful.
I always feel I have to keep my handbag under my arm here and the last time we stopped by some guy couldn't be bothered to come back inside for a wee after his fag, so was using the wall. Nice."
