If we were rating pubs for food served up then this would probably score approaching full marks, however there's the rest of the place to consider! Although The Griffin is strictly a pub it's seriously edging towards being a restaurant. They only set out the table if you order food but the place was packed out on our visit and everyone was eating - so you'd feel guilty sitting in here for hours taking up table space when you're only drinking. It might be good to come here off-peak for a few beers but generally you'd come here to eat. And that's a shame really as the pub itself is very nice - it's a very old beamed building backing onto the River Thames and very well looked after. G.
I'm not sure there is an off peak. This place is always packed with people enjoying a jolly nice dinner. It's a lovely building and the whole place has a really nice charm about it but it is very hard to call it a pub nowadays. Lovely place though but I think they should have a dedicated bar area for drinkers only so you don't feel in the way of the people hanging around hoping to grab a table when one becomes free. S.

BEER EXPERIENCE

A bit unusual to find Courage beers - Directors and Best Bitter look to be their standard range. They also have a rotating guest ale, which was excellent news! G.
Horrah!

VISITOR FEEDBACK [Give Your Feedback]

"Generally agree with the evaluations above. The food is not always so great (ask my wife about that), but the ambience is fantastic. Needs a beer garden closer to the Thames."

"Agree with your assessment. It was a very nice pub for dinner while I visited Reading from Northern California on business. Cozy place and a good crowd. Food and service was excellent. Good beer topped it all off."
