ORIGINAL REVIEW: 25 September 2004 |
The pub is in the bottom of a concrete tower block - and is about what you'd expect. A bit scruffy and a bit basic, but in a handy location for Reading College - especially if you're an underage drinker! Not that I'm suggesting they'd serve you of course... I know the place can be packed out on band nights, but on a Saturday evening with no live music there were only about 4 people other than our group in the place. There's a pool table (which takes up half the pub), a jukebox with dome decent tunes, darts around the corner, and a very worn out carpet. The highlight for me were the pool rules - if I hadn't been playing doubles I'd have had to drop my trousers and run around the pub (the penalty for being seven balled). It wouldn't have been a pretty sight that's for certain. G.
I don't know what you are talking about and I'm pretty sure I was playing against you. But as Michael and myself wiped the floor with you and the unfortunate Rudd (unfortunate for having you as his pool partner that is) I guess I wouldn't know any losers penalties! Standard Student type pub, felt much more like a bar than a pub and a scruffy bar at that. Come to think of it, it's very reminiscent of a Student Union in the old style before they started to do them up. Music was good as well, none of that town centre pop nonsense you get in Bar Med and such like and the bar staff were surprising polite and friendly. S.

BEER EXPERIENCE |
Not much to report. Guiness, Kronenbourg, maybe Carling or something. And that's about it. G.
Don't forget Guiness Extra Cold as well, I'm pretty sure they had that. Sarah wasn't pleased with the wine either. One type only and it comes in a small bottle that isn't even a 250ml portion! S.

"An absolute shit hole. Stinks of stale piss in the main bar, if you want to chat with a local with your pint forget it, and a sneak peak through to the kitchen leaves you wondering just how on earth this place remains open. The cleanest part of the operation was the bogs, although I would recommend going round the back and just pissing on the walls like the locals"
