We had a good time in here - but mostly thanks to the place being empty! There were two or three regulars slumped at the bar, but other than that not a soul and the landlord seemed genuinely surprised to have more than four people in his pub on a Saturday night. What it did mean is that all the facilities were ours - who needs to hire a function room when you can come to the Red Cow and have a whole games room to yourself. The landlord was a decent bloke and the locals didn't mind us taking over the pub at all. The pub itself really wasn't that impressive - but it depends what kind of evening you're after. If you fancy a no hassle night playing a few games of pool, with a couple of relaxing pints then this could actually be the place to come. G.|
Strange but true. I really can't add much to this one and I really must try to get off my lazy arse and do some of these reviews pronto so that I get in first as I keep on repeating everything G has said. Maybe I should write the review before I've read his at least, that might help. But yes, we had a top evening and they had so many games on offer the girls could take an hour over one game of pool whilst the blokes took the same amount of time over one game of darts (and we only played from 301). I think the good thing was we were all a bit lubed up by then, in the alcohol sense that is, and we didn't have any of those uncomfortable - this pub is for locals only and we are being stared at - kind of feelings. We just took over the place and had a bloody good time. S.
Wasn't really much on offer - standard range - and nothing to get excited about. I'm told the wine was a bit dodgy too - they had to dust off a bottle from downstairs. Obviously not much of a demand for ladies drinks in this pub. The Courage Best was good enough though. G.|
Let me deal with this in order. First things first, I have no idea how you remember we drank Courage but I'm glad you did as I had no idea at all. Secondly, what do you mean 'dust off a bottle from downstairs'! Get with the program mate. He was gone so long I am positive they had to go the offie to get a bottle of vino plonko in. The rest of what I remember was on offer was limited and (as you rightly say) unexciting, although I think one of the ladies had the solitary and lonely Blue WKD thingy that they had in the chillar. "You can get a roast dinner for £3.50. The other week they gave my brother 10 roast spuds."|

"A run-down pub. It needs a good Spring clean. The pub might appeal to the sophisticates who are used to drinking silly girlie drinks and over priced bottled lager, but for anyone appreciating a decent drop of bitter, it is the pits. Sure the food is cheap, but that's because it is made with the poorest ingredients: might be ok for a tramp and the like. My advice: give it a miss."

"The pub's being improved constantly and the garden is lovely now & especially great for kids. People make pubs not paint! The food really is the best (& cheapest) in Reading, now surely you have to come & have a look"

"Unfair! I demand a retrial. True a locals pub, could do with a lick of paint but I feel it's very friendly. Give it a go, no-one bites and the bar staff are friendly. Guaranteed you'll soon join us slumped at the bar."
