Lovely place this, can't see many ways to improve it really. A good 'pub' and it even had live music on the night we were there. Well set out place and was lively enough on this Saturday to have a bit of an atmosphere. As I write this I am beginning to remember this was pub no.5 on the crawl so maybe my judgement is being clouded by the pints already consumed and my review is influenced by my beer goggles! Nice curtains though! S.
You know I'm certain this was number 4 on the list. When I say certain, I mean in a not at all certain way. I think it was number 4. Kings Tavern, Eldon, Retreat, Lyndhurst, Wynford, Warwick, Casa. I think. Anyway, stop distracting me. After the other pubs before this place it was great to find a place packed with people on a Saturday night and a nice pub atmosphere going on. The place is very nicely done up thank you, and the live music was a good touch. My good lady Marie took the names of the two musicians in question and promised fame and fortune (well, their names to appear in this review anyway, which isn't quite the same thing) - and then promptly lost the beer mat. She says that Janet promised to remember the names anyway, but she promptly forgot (I think she may have been drinking in her defence). Anyway, we think one of the guys was called Ralph. G.

Help G, I've no idea. S.
I know they did Spitfire - and I have a sneaky idea you had one of those although who knows? They had a good range of proper beer - it's rare to see Black Sheep in Reading and I seriously enjoyed the chance to have a tasty pint of that. G.
That's right my old pal. I didn't fancy the Black Sheep as I have been up to Yorkshire for my holiday this year and has quite a few pints of that whilst I was that way. S.

VISITOR FEEDBACK [Give Your Feedback]

"Great pub for the Sunday quiz and a couple of lagers but as it seems to market itself mostly on its menu, we found it a huge disappointment. The food was dire, absolutely awful...and expensive for what it was. The sunday roast: Yorkshire was burned, the mat was fatty and the broccoli was rock har. Green Curry was edible but also contained carrots which was odd. And lastly we had the 'ham, egg and chips. The 'ham' was smoked (not noted on the menu). A good quiz but we all left most of our meal and no one asked if '....everytihng was ok/did you enjoy your meal...'. Go for a pub experience but avoid at all costs for food. Expensive and unpalatable."

"1996, just before New Years, was when I was there. Great beer and an excellent bartender. The fact that I still remember the name of the pub says something, and not that I didn't have enough to drink."

"The pub and beer is good - but bad food. I think it's changed hands recently and the food was bad quality full of gristle, we had 1 meal served and then after a long wait we were told that the 3 other meals we had ordered would not have one of the main ingredients in them... very frustrating."

"This pub is amazing, we spend most of our weekends here. Our favourite night is Saturday when they have live music which we both dance to. Quite often Matt will go there with Dave his mate with the massive pony tail to quiz night on a Sunday. If you are in the area on Paddy's day, you must stop at the Lyndhurst because it turns into the O'Lyndhurst, Reading's only real Irish pub complete with Yorkshire DJ. We are going travelling for the next 9 months so will miss this place hugely. O the Lyndhurst."

"Great pub with cracking beers. Also an excellent pub quiz on Sunday nights where you can sometimes win big money (I won over 1000 in one go!)"

"Great pub and good beer. Wish it was local enough to be my local!"
