The Riverside was a suprise visit for the sixth pub of the evening after Three Men in a Boat was closed for a private function. Although classed as a restaurant, there's a proper bar area before the restaurant entrance proper - where you can get bar food or just have a few pints. We arrived late and they didn't kick us out after drinking up time as there was a private party (which may have been gate-crashed by the hard core dancers in our group) well underway in the restuarant area. The bar area itself is probably usually more of an area for pre-restaurant drinks but it's a very pleasant place with big candles providing very subtle lighting on big wooden tables. If you're just passing through it would be ideal for a nice cosy pint in the winter. G.|
Yeah, a kind of bar area near the bar but again, I wouldn't come here just for a drink. I would feel out of place. As he said, this was the last place on a long night and all I can remember is seeing Spiderman, Elvis and Superwoman wandering around!! My impression of the establishment was that it was a nice cosy restaurant type thing in the same vein as Chronicles (I believe it may have previously been one of these and retains the same general style). I could be wrong though. S.
I started off with the Badger Tanglefoot. Although the Tanglefoot was out of a bottle it was miles better than the draught Extra Smooth. I just figured I'd better give the draught beer a go... my top tip would be to get Tanglefoot on cask. Reasonable range of beer though considering it's only a small bar and really it's a restuarant. Nice Hof by the way. S.
"This is a great bar and resturant on the Riverside which is great during the sunny days as it has outside seating. It's relaxed and welcoming and prices are resonable."|
