A very neat, tidy, and well looked afer "proper" pub. The pub is divided in two in traditional style - a lounge bar and a public bar. The Eldon felt very welcoming and was seriously warm (that could perhaps save on their heating costs!) - but would be a perfect pub for spending those long winter evenings. Great pub serving great beer. Great. G.
I really liked this pub, from the tiled floor to the traditional looking bar area. It was really hot in here but we didn't take off all our clothes as the photo's prove. I suppose this pub is certainly nothing special but it just felt like a really good little pub and again, friendly bar staff (in this case I think it was the landlady, though her name escapes me for now). Oh, one problem was that without us in there (pic 2 shows the full gang, minus Paul who is taking the photo, that were taking part in this crawl) it would have been pretty quiet and maybe lacking in a nice pub atmos. S.

BEER EXPERIENCE

A superb choice of four real ales as well as your usual set of beers. The Eldon Arms is a Wadworth tied pub (which seems quite unusual for Reading), so they had four rare feeling (apart from the 6X of course) beers. The Malt 'n' Hops was exactly what it said on the tin - or rather the beer clip. Very tasty and well served up as well - an excellent pint, which slipped down very easily - perfect for a pub crawl. G.
Indeed, this was early on in the pub crawl and luckily so as it meant we could taste the yummy beer. S.

VISITOR FEEDBACK [Give Your Feedback]

"Decent enough boozer, Brian and Anne are friendly and welcoming. Could do with another guest beer although the choice isn't bad."

"Walk in and feel at home! This back street pub is a classic and part of a dying breed - more's the pity. The beer is well kept and yes, you will find it in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide. It also boasts Reading's longest serving landlord and landlady - over 30 years. The collection of nick naks in the Lounge Bar is fascinating. Parking is far from easy, but there are bus routes very nearby and it's not too long a walk from Reading centre."
