Revolution is miles ahead of it's rivals in the trendy, sophisticated town bar genre. The whole place is just that bit more arty and design based giving the impression that they've splashed out on getting it done properly. There's the excellent red hole in the ceiling as you walk in, some great lighting behind the bar and some very trendy stripped down concrete pillars. The brown sofas just add to the atmophere they're trying to generate. This was a late night Saturday visit, so a bit different to a day time visit in that we had to pay three quid to get in (normally free). The place was heaving with a packed dance floor with people getting down to the expected house/garage/shed/whatever music whilst watching cartoons on the projector screen. Very loud and crazy with drunk people galore but still retaining that classy edge and with a good mix of people. Noticed a table football as well - but I think that gets its use from day time visits. Also during the day they're rumoured to do proper food. Nice bar staff too. The high score reflects that the place is achieving what it's setting out to do even though it's not a traditional pub like some of the other mission high scorers... G.|
Blimey mate, another great review. What do you mean exactly when you say 'nice bar staff'. Can you elaborate for us there. And for the music I would say it reflects the latest from the uk urban scene, mixed with some overlapping 6x4 shed music!!
It is a good place but everytime I go here I feel a bit under-whelmed as it looks great, there's no denying that, but the music isn't for me really and doesn't make me want to shake my money maker! The result being that I really like the place to look at and enjoy that big red hole in the ceiling as much as the next bloke, but I would probably have a better time somewhere else.
Having said that, we did find a very comfy sofa to lounge around on and I had a good time whilst I was there so it would seem I am a mass of contradiction when it comes to Revolution. S.
Also, one of my favourite songs is Revolution by the Beatles (well favourite Beatles song that is) so that's nice. S.
It's a vodka bar - so there's plenty of selection if you've after a spirit or two. With the beer... well you'd expect lager, and they don't disappoint with a good range of the stuff. The Staropramen was unavailable unfortunately, but they still has Hoegarden on draught alongside Leffe and Stella - so a good choice of Euro brews. The Leffe was four pound a pint but we splashed out anyway, and it was very very enjoyable compared to the standard pint of Stella we started with. As far as I know the only place with Leffe on draught in Reading? G.|
Luckily for me Graham splashed out for the Leffe. £4 a pint!! Are they crazy. I know it is a rather yummy beer but still, that's off the scale! It was too much of a tour de force for me in a pint size as well as I remember finding the last 1/4 rather difficult to squash down inside. I managed though so don't you go worrying. Great lager selection and in my mind it would have secured top marks for beer if the Staro was flowing. S.
